Benefits of Membership
- Monthly Meetings: These meetings are an opportunity for fellowship with fellow quilters and learning from local and national speakers.
- Workshops: With very few exceptions, the Guild offers monthly workshops to its members and the general public. These workshops include hands-on techniques and are an opportunity to work with and learn from internationally recognized quilt designers, authors, and teachers.
- Library: The Guild has an extensive library of over 400 books on every conceivable quilt related topic. New books are added almost monthly and members can reserve books reserve books with the librarian.
- Guild Activities: In addition to “Block of the Month,” and “Show & Tell,” which are held monthly, the Guild sponsors an annual Retreat. You can spend 3-5 days quilting, eating, laughing, relaxing, and enjoying beautiful Lake Texoma, the fellowship of other quilters, and just being away from home.
- Community Service: One of the most rewarding benefits of membership is the opportunity as a volunteer to make quilts for organizations in the Plano area. Members of the Guild made and donated over 200 quilts this year alone.
- Quilt Show: The Quilters Guild of Plano hosts a biennial quilt show, held on odd numbered years. Our first show was held in 1991 with our next show planned for August 12th and 13th, 2011 at the Plano Centre on Spring Creek at Jupiter in Plano, TX. The quilts are judged by judges certified by the American Quilter’s Society and/or the National Quilting Association. There are 300 quilts on display, a mini-quilt auction, vendor booths, and much excitement.
- Education: The Quilters Guild of Plano is proud to have within its membership talented quilters, from beginner to advanced, who generously volunteer to serve the Plano community providing educational lectures, workshops, demonstrations, etc. Any member interested in volunteering for such events, as they arise, is welcome.
- Friendship Groups: Friendship groups (also known as small groups) are truly the “heart” of the guild. These groups range from 2 to 20 people, who generally meet at a member’s home to share fellowship and a love of quilting. Anyone can start a new group and can belong to as many as energy and commitment allow.
- Newsletter and Web Page: The Guild publishes a monthly newsletter containing minutes of the previous month’s meeting and information on up-coming events. The Guild’s web page has a wealth of historical information, photos, programs, and workshop information, as well as links to numerous quilt shops and quilt related sites.
