About the Quilters Guild of Plano
The Quilters Guild of Plano exists to bring together people who share a love of quilts and quilting. Together we learn from national and local quilt teachers and speakers, and share our work with each other and the community. All levels of quilters are encouraged to join us, including beginners. We are a 501(c)3 organization, and are supported in part by the City of Plano.
When do we meet?
The Quilters Guild of Plano meets the second Thursday of Each month. Meetings start at 7:00 pm with a social time from 6:30pm to 7:00pm. Guests are always welcome at these meetings. Meetings that feature a national speaker have a $5 guest fee.
Where do we meet?
The Quilters Guild of Plano meets at Parkway Hills Baptist Church. The church is located on the east side of the Dallas North Tollway between Park and Parker in Plano.
History of the Guild
The guild was formed in the Fall of 1982 by a small group of women who shared quilting as a common interest. An offshoot of the Quilter's Guild of Dallas, the women spoke, shared and taught each other in the hospitality of each other's homes for the first two years. The Happy Hoopers (the group's original name) began advertising their existence and welcomed others who shared their enthusiasm for quilting. This enabled them to grow and better meet the interests of the Plano community. They soon became independent of the Dallas group and May of 1986 officially adopted the name: Quilters Guild of Plano.
In 1989, the guild became incorporated. In 1991, the guild proudly produced its first quilt show, called QuiltPlano 91 at the Plano Civic Centre. It was a creative and financial success. Currently the guild is planning its ninth biennial show, QuiltPlano 2007 - Labors of Love, 25 Years of Quilting with the Plano Guild. The Quilters Guild of Plano is active in the community, demonstrating quilting techniques at various community events, and contributes quilts to charitable organizations as well as numerous individual contributions to schools, scouts and other groups interested in the art and history of quilting.
Our bylaws have been revised in May 2007 and are available here.
