Autumn in New York
Brooks Wilson - Knotty Girls Small Group
There are two great things about “Autumn in New York” and it’s not the two actors involved. The first is the gorgeous, sun-drenched, fall-colored scenery: Central Park, the parks in Greenwich Village, the majestic buildings. The second is the beautifully evocative title, foreshadowing an ending to be revealed only after melodrama.
The sappy story has confirmed (and aging) bachelor Richard Gere falling hopelessly in love for the first time with the deliriously elfin Winona Ryder (before her fall from grace at Henry Bendel’s). She is so full-of-life, but alas, so tragically sick. He finally learns how to love just as she is saying “adieu” to the earth, but always looking her very best. Gag me.
Both actors are oh! so beautiful and dewey-eyed, but there is no (count ‘em, none, zilch, zero) chemistry between these two. So, if you’re lucky enough to plan an autumnal trip to Manhattan, you might want to scout out some wonderful photo op locations. Otherwise, leave this stinker on the video store shelf.
Our block for October combines all the luscious colors of fall with a simple block pattern. If you win this block, you could put it together in time for a great Christmas present for the man in your life.
